On Nut Square

The On Nut Square Market is one of those markets where the Thai’s turn a parking lot into a market place after hours. The On Nut Square market is no different. The market is location right next to the BTS On Nut Station in Bangkok where in the late afternoon the parking lot opposite of Tesco is turned in a market.

On Nut Square

The market is mainly for people coming from work wanting to buy smaller things on their way home. There are many restaurants in the area and also a beer garden with music most days and it caters mainly to young woman selling everything for trinkets, shoes and also other goods such as clothing. The market is not very large but there are many fashionable items on the cheap. There is also the On Nut Food Market which is outside and sells food and beer on the cheap.

Location

Officially known as Bar Sawadee, this establishment is nestled in the heart of Soi Sukhumvit 81. It serves as a splendid venue for indulging in beverages and relishing delectable cuisine. Patrons have the delightful option of choosing between Thai fare (both central Thai and Isan dishes), Japanese delicacies, and a noteworthy pizza joint where an exceptionally skilled Thai chef crafts pizzas that rival even the finest Italian ones. (I must emphasize that, being Italian myself, my Italian acquaintances share the same sentiment.)

If you’re inclined toward exploring the diverse flavors of this locale, I’d recommend trying the pork satay. However, if you have an aversion to spicy dishes, it’s advisable to communicate your preferences in advance. To cap off your culinary journey, there’s “On Fire,” a stand that offers an assortment of German wurst and scrumptious fried delights.

Accessing this gem is straightforward. Simply take the BTS to On Nut station, and you’ll find this market conveniently situated across from Tesco.

Bar Sawadee is undoubtedly a must-visit for aficionados of Thai cuisine. The market offers a pleasant ambiance with comfortable seating, striking a balance between being spacious yet avoiding excessive overcrowding. As for the prices, they are remarkably wallet-friendly. During our visit, we indulged in salted fish, succulent barbecued prawns, and flavorful clams, all for a total of 600 baht. To complement your meal, there’s also a selection of craft beers, accompanied by impeccable service. See also the Cafe di Maria on here.
